Planning your Business Journey

When you think about how you run your business, do you ever stop to think about the journey that you’re on? As business owners we don’t often get the time to really sit down and think about the direction we’re heading, nor do we reflect on how far we’ve come. We tend to live in the moment, actively responding to the changes and tackling the challenges head on. If you think about your business as a trip you’d like to take, you wouldn’t just get in the car and drive, would you? You’d decide on a destination, you’d think about the various methods of transport, you’d set a budget, you’d plan, perhaps bring in professional assistance for the bits you’re not so good at. Running a business is exactly the same.

Destination -> Long term goal

Transport -> Clients

Budget -> Cash Flow

Plan -> Marketing

Assistance -> Staff or outsourced contracts

The Ultimate Goal

Let’s start by thinking about the end of the journey which is the ultimate goal. This doesn’t have to be set in stone, it’s your goal so feel free to move it depending on your current situation. It is important to have something to work towards though. Whether it’s a better work life balance, financial freedom or just doing things your own way, you set the goal.

Next, think about transporting yourself towards that goal. To be able to do that, you’re going to need to find some clients. What does your ideal client look like, where do they hang out, how will they know how to find you?

The budget and marketing come next in the masterplan. Think about the best way to tell potential clients about your services or product. Do your research and set a budget, make sure you’re getting the best return on your investment.

One of the things to remember when you are launching and running a business is that you don’t need to do everything yourself. By outsourcing some of the essential business or marketing tasks, you will be able to focus on getting your service or product just right.

Having a business coach on your team is a great way to get off to the best possible start. They will help you to get your business organised, work more efficiently and generate profits while helping you set goals, grow steadily and not feel overwhelmed.
